Ortley Beach
Coastal BeachesOrtley Beach, also known as Dover Beaches South, is a small section of Toms River Township in Ocean County, New Jersey. It is a residential and beach resort community that is popular during the summer months with tourists and seasonal residents. The area is known for its family-friendly atmosphere, with a variety of recreational activities such as swimming, sunbathing, and fishing. Ortley Beach has a boardwalk area with eateries and shops, although it is less commercialized than some of its neighboring communities. The residential areas consist of a mix of single-family homes, condominiums, and townhouses, many of which are rented out during the summer season. Ortley Beach was significantly impacted by Hurricane Sandy in 2012, leading to major reconstruction and beach replenishment projects to restore its shoreline and infrastructure. The community has since rebounded, with a focus on rebuilding stronger and more resilient structures. Ortley Beach offers a quiet escape from the busier tourist spots, while still providing easy access to the attractions and amenities of the Jersey Shore.
Local RestaurantsOrtley Beach offers a variety of dining experiences, from casual to upscale. Visitors can enjoy fresh seafood with ocean views at the casual Spicy Cantina & Mexican Grille, or opt for Italian cuisine at the mid-priced Mia's Pizza and Cafe. For a more upscale dining experience, there's the Starlight Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria, which offers a fine dining atmosphere. Joey Harrison's Surf Club used to be a popular spot before it was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy, and plans for rebuilding have been discussed.
