Peapack-Gladstone
SuburbanPeapack and Gladstone is a small borough nestled in Somerset County, New Jersey. The "twin boroughs," as it is sometimes called, is characterized by scenic landscapes, historic estates, and tranquil atmosphere.
Peapack and Gladstone is one of the five towns that make up the Somerset Hills area. The other four are Bernardsville, Basking Ridge, Bedminster, and Far Hills.
Though they are one town, there are distinct "downtown" sections of both Peapack AND Gladstone. They were both once independent villages that were part of Bedminster. Peapack is south and slightly east of Gladstone, but there really is no widely accepted or even talked about border between the two. Both sections of town have their own post office and train stations despite the fact that they are both quite small. These downtown areas offer a small selection of well-regarded restaurants and boutique shops.
With its history dating back to the 18th century, Peapack and Gladstone boasts a variety of architectural styles and varying home sizes - everything from a small number of historic grand mansions to quaint cottages. There are a number of tasteful developments that were added in the last half of the 20th century that increased available housing, and thus the population. That being said, it is still a small town with a population of 2,558 according to the 2020 census.
Outdoor enthusiasts enjoy the proximity to the north branch of the Raritan River, Peapack Brook, and several parks of varying sizes. Residents can easily enjoy activities like trout fishing, hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Golf and tennis clubs of all kinds can be found in neighboring communities.
In addition to the the smaller public parks of Peapack and Gladstone, the town is one of three communities that Natirar County Park spans. (Far Hills and Bedminster are the other two.) Residents can also enjoy, Jockey Hollow, Hacklebarney State Park, and the Great Swamp Wildlife Refuge, among others, that are about 20-30 minutes about by car.
Peapack-Gladstone offers a variety of dining experiences, from the upscale Ninety Acres at Natirar, which features farm-to-table cuisine in an elegant setting, to the more moderately priced Gladstone Tavern, where guests can enjoy American fare in a historic building. For casual dining, Cafe Azzurro provides Italian dishes in a relaxed atmosphere, and for a quick bite, CocoLuxe Fine Pastries offers a selection of baked goods and coffee.
