History of Lavalette

Lavallette, New Jersey, is a borough located on the Barnegat Peninsula in Ocean County. Established on December 21, 1887, through an act of the New Jersey Legislature, the borough was named for Elie A. F. La Vallette, one of the first rear admirals appointed in the United States Navy. The land that would become Lavallette was originally part of Dover Township (now Toms River Township).
