Far Hills

Country

Far Hills, located in Somerset County, New Jersey, is a small and affluent community with a quaint town center, large country estates, equestrian culture, and serene countryside. It's an excellent choice for those seeking a quiet, country lifestyle that is relatively close to New York City.

Far Hills is one of the five towns that make up the Somerset Hills area. The other four are Bernardsville, Basking Ridge, Bedminster, and Peapack and Gladstone

Far Hills is primarily residential with a charming downtown area that includes a small neighborhood of homes, a train station, and the iconic Far Hills Fairgrounds. Outside of this central area, there is a small mix of estates, horse farms, and charming homes of varying sizes and price points. The town is home to the annual Far Hills Race Meeting, a popular Breeder's Cup steeplechase that draws visitors from across the country.

Far Hills also offers access to picturesque parks and natural areas, including Buck Gardens and the iconic Natirar County Park, which also extends into Bedminster and Peapack and Gladstone.

In addition to Natirar, additional hiking and recreational options are plentiful in places like Jockey Hollow, Hacklebarney State Park, and the Great Swamp Wildlife Refuge, among many others.

Shopping in Far Hills is limited to small, upscale boutiques and specialty shops. For more extensive retail options, residents often visit nearby Bernardsville or Bridgewater, which offer a wider variety of stores and dining experiences.

Despite its rural suburban feel, Far Hills has easy access to Interstate 287, Interstate 78, Route 202, and Route 206. The Far Hills train station also provides NJ Transit service, making it a convenient option for commuters.

Local Restaurants

Far Hills offers a variety of dining experiences nearby if not directly in town, from the upscale Ninety Acres at Natirar, which features farm-to-table cuisine in an elegant setting, the Pluckemin Inn, the Gladstone Tavern, and the Station Pub and Grub in Bernardsville are also popular options.

Cost of Living

The cost of living in Far Hills is among the highest in the region, with real estate prices significantly exceeding the national average. This is reflective of the borough's exclusivity, large estate properties, and affluent demographic.

Area Hospitals

Far Hills is in close proximity to several reputable healthcare facilities, including Morristown Medical Center, which is nationally recognized for its cardiology, heart surgery, and orthopedics departments. Additionally, the nearby Somerset Medical Center in Somerville provides a wide range of medical services and specialties to residents.
