History of Robbinsville

By Joshua Wood, LPC

Summary: It's helpful for people considering moving to Robbinsville to understand it's history and how it has developed into the community it is today.

Robbinsville, New Jersey, is a township with a rich history that dates back to its original settlement in the 17th century. Initially part of East Windsor Township, Robbinsville was known as Washington Township when it was incorporated in 1859. The name was changed to Robbinsville in 2007, in honor of George R. Robbins, who represented the area in Congress in the mid-1800s.

The area was primarily agricultural, with many farms dotting the landscape. The fertile soil of the region supported a variety of crops, and the township's rural character was predominant for many years. The advent of the railroad and later the construction of major highways brought significant changes, facilitating commerce and attracting residents.

In the 20th century, Robbinsville continued to grow, with the development of suburban housing and the establishment of businesses. The township's location, nestled between New York City and Philadelphia, made it an attractive place for those seeking a suburban lifestyle with easy access to major urban centers.

Today, Robbinsville is known for its blend of residential communities, parks, and growing economic development. The town has a diverse population and offers a variety of amenities, including excellent schools and recreational facilities. The transformation from a quiet farming community to a vibrant suburban township makes Robbinsville an appealing destination for families and individuals looking to put down roots in Central New Jersey.
