Cost of Living in Woodcliff Lake

By Joshua Wood, LPC

Summary: If you are thinking about moving to Woodcliff Lake, here is an overview of the cost of living there.

Woodcliff Lake, is a small affluent borough located in Bergen County, known for its high quality of life and proximity to New York City. The cost of living in Woodcliff Lake is significantly higher than the national average, reflecting the desirability of the area and the amenities it offers. Housing costs are a major factor in the overall cost of living, with prices for homes reflecting the upscale nature of the community. As of my knowledge cutoff in early 2023, the median home value in Woodcliff Lake is well above the national median, with 3 and 4 bedroom homes often listing for upwards of $700,000 to over $1 million, depending on the size, condition, and location of the property. The housing market is competitive, and homes in desirable neighborhoods or with premium features can command even higher prices.

Apartment rentals in Woodcliff Lake also tend to be on the higher end, with monthly rents for a 1-bedroom apartment starting at around $1,800 to $2,500, while larger 2 or 3-bedroom apartments can easily exceed $3,000 per month. For those interested in purchasing an apartment or a condominium, prices can vary widely based on the size and luxury of the unit, but it's not uncommon to see prices starting at $300,000 and going up to $600,000 or more for premium properties. Dining out in Woodcliff Lake can also be a costly affair, with many upscale restaurants and eateries in the area. A meal at a mid-range restaurant can cost between $50 to $70 per person, while a dinner at a high-end restaurant can be significantly more expensive.

Utilities, including electricity, heating, cooling, water, and garbage, can cost around $250 to $400 per month for a standard-sized home, though this can fluctuate based on usage and the time of year. Woodcliff Lake is also home to several private schools, and tuition fees reflect the exclusive nature of these institutions. Preschool tuition can range from $10,000 to $20,000 per year, while elementary, middle, and high school tuitions can be considerably higher, often exceeding $30,000 per year. These costs can vary depending on the school's reputation, facilities, and the level of individual attention provided to students.
