Cost of Living in Sharon

By Betsy Burlingame

Summary: If you are thinking about moving to Sharon, here is an overview of the cost of living there.

Sharon, is a small, picturesque town located in Litchfield County, known for its rural charm and relatively high quality of life. The cost of living in Sharon can be considered higher than the national average, primarily due to the housing market and the exclusivity of some of its services and amenities. Housing prices in Sharon vary significantly based on the property's location, size, and condition. As of my knowledge cutoff in early 2023, the median home value in Sharon is quite high compared to national figures, with 3 and 4 bedroom homes often listed for sale at prices ranging from $400,000 to over $1 million, depending on the aforementioned factors.

Rental prices for apartments in Sharon can also be on the higher side, reflecting the town's affluent nature and the limited rental market. A 1-bedroom apartment might rent for between $1,200 and $1,500 per month, while larger 2 or 3-bedroom apartments can command upwards of $2,000 to $3,000 per month. Apartment purchases are less common, as the market is more geared towards single-family homes, but condos and apartments that do sell can range from $200,000 to $500,000 or more, depending on the size and luxury of the unit.

When it comes to dining out, Sharon offers a range of options from casual eateries to upscale restaurants. A meal at a mid-range restaurant can cost around $15 to $30 per person, while a dinner for two at a higher-end restaurant can easily exceed $100, not including wine or drinks. Utilities, including electricity, heating, cooling, water, and garbage, can cost around $200 to $300 per month for a standard home, though this can vary widely with the size of the home and the season.

Private school tuition in Sharon is another factor that can significantly affect a family's budget. Preschool costs can range from $10,000 to $20,000 per year, while elementary, middle, and high school tuitions can be considerably higher, often between $20,000 and $40,000 per year, depending on the institution's prestige and the level of education provided.
