History of Scarsdale

Scarsdale, a town with a rich history, is nestled in Westchester County, New York. Its origins date back to 1666 when Caleb Heathcote, an English merchant and New York City mayor, purchased the land from the Wappinger Native American tribe. Heathcote named the area after his ancestral home in Derbyshire, England. In 1702, he was granted a royal charter, transforming his estate into the 'Manor of Scarsdale', and establishing a legacy that would evolve into the modern-day town.

Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, Scarsdale remained a quiet, rural community.
