History of Sands Point

Sands Point is a picturesque village located at the tip of the Port Washington peninsula on Long Island's North Shore. This affluent community is known for its stunning waterfront estates and rich history that dates back to the early 17th century. Originally inhabited by the Matinecock Native American tribe, the area was first settled by European colonists in the 1640s. The name "Sands Point" was derived from the sandy cliffs that border the village's peninsula.

The Preserve includes the Guggenheim Estate and Falaise, a historic house museum.
