Cost of Living in Oxford

By Joshua Wood, LPC

Summary: If you are thinking about moving to Oxford, here is an overview of the cost of living there.

Oxford, is a small, picturesque town located in New Haven County. It offers a blend of rural charm and suburban convenience, which is reflected in its cost of living. Housing prices in Oxford can vary depending on the location, size, and condition of the property. As of my knowledge cutoff in early 2023, the median home value in Oxford is around $350,000 to $450,000. For a 3-bedroom home, prices typically range from $300,000 to $400,000, while 4-bedroom homes can be found in the range of $400,000 to $500,000 or more, depending on the amenities and location within the town.

Apartment rentals in Oxford are relatively limited due to the town's predominantly residential nature. However, for the available rental properties, a 1-bedroom apartment might cost around $1,200 to $1,500 per month, while a 2-bedroom apartment could range from $1,500 to $2,000 per month. Apartment purchases are less common, but condos and townhomes may be available, with prices varying widely based on size and location. Dining out in Oxford offers a range of options from casual eateries to more upscale restaurants. A typical meal at a mid-range restaurant might cost between $15 and $30 per person, while a three-course meal at an upscale restaurant could be upwards of $50 per person.

Utilities, including electricity, heating, cooling, water, and garbage, can cost an average of $200 to $300 per month for a standard family home, though this can fluctuate based on usage and the time of year. Internet and cable services can add an additional $50 to $100 to monthly expenses. Private school tuition in Oxford varies significantly based on the institution and the level of education. Preschool tuition can range from $10,000 to $20,000 per year. Elementary and middle schools may charge between $15,000 and $30,000 per year, while private high schools can cost upwards of $30,000 to $40,000 annually, depending on the school's reputation and facilities.
